Menstruation is a taboo subject in Nepal and in much of the world. Times are changing and the need to provide our young people with empowerment through education is becoming clearer and clearer.

We are part of the menstrual education movement in Nepal, raising awareness and sharing fundamental knowledge to inspire independence and autonomy, changing the experience for people who menstruate, especially in rural areas.

We are currently co-creating our Kumari’s Adventure story book together with our growing community, illustrated by people across Nepal. It will be an inspiring educational tool and conversation starter.

It is estimated that 85% of women follow some form of restriction during their menstruation. In the strictest tradition called chhaupadi, practiced in rural West Nepal, women are completely separated for up to 8 days and follow precise rules. In towns and cities it is still very common to find variations of these practices that restrict daily life, often for 4-5 days.

EACH OF US CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
TOGETHER WE CAN CREATE CHANGE.

FIRST PERIOD EXPERIENCES

An insight into some of the stories
of young women within our Kumari’s
Adventure with her Moon Cycle network.

AN INDIVIDUAL INSIGHT

Anisha is 14 and from a village in Dhading
district. She shares her personal
experience of menstruation.

Watch a short animation that tells the story of Chhaupadi,
an extreme practice that is now illegal in Nepal,
and how this practice has effected individuals lives.

IT’S NOT NECESSARILY CHANGING THE PRACTICES AROUND OUR MENSTRUATION

but if we can all change the way that we think about it, the way that we perceive it, and see that any way we choose to honour our menstruation is because our bodies are powerful, then we’ll feel more confident and able to talk about something that has been taboo for so long!

We host, fundraise for and collaborate with other organisations to hold menstruation workshops for women.

Our workshops are designed to focus on the positive, and are a fun and relaxed environment. Although there is often a lot of shyness around this sensitive subject, generally the women and girls relax quickly, giggling with each other and asking questions.

AN INSIGHT INTO
OUR WORKSHOP STRUCTURE

Creativity gives opportunity for expression, and for learning and understanding in a relaxed and fun environment.
We use creativity to explore women’s fears and break down taboos, allowing them to formulate their own ideas about the subject.
We then use that creativity to illustrate our motto,
that Together we are Stronger.

OUR CREATIVITY CONTINUES TO GROW AFTER WORKSHOPS
