My First Period

An insight into some of the experiences of girls within the network of Kumari’s Adventure with her Moon Cycle, our inspiring menstruation story.

First is Ashma Dahal, the main illustrator of the story who lives in Kathmandu.

The next experience comes from Puja Gupta, who lives in Biratnagar, in the terai region of Nepal.

Next we hear the story of Divyata Adhikari, who lives in Dharan, which also lies in the flat plains of Nepal.

Lastly, we share the first period story of Ashima Adhikari, who lives in Kathmandu.

Thank you so much to these brave young women who have shared their first period experiences with us.
It’s worth to note that these stories come from people who have been empowered through education and supportive situations to feel safe to share their stories. The stories from more rural communities are layered with even more stigma. You can read some of them in the Stories of Nepal and Dignity without Danger collaboration.
